Moped and scooter driver's licence

Moped and scooter driver's licence is most often the first driving licence for young people, as the AM category can be obtained from the young age of 14 years. However, drivers who hold the licence to drive vehicles of categories A, B, C1, D1, C or D in Latvia, are also allowed to drive Category AM vehicles without obtaining this specific category. The Category AM licence is usually associated exactly with the vehicle type of moped or scooter, but this category also allows riding quad bikes and scooters with the maximum design speed of up to 45 km/h.

The Category AM doesn't necessarily need to be acquired at a driver's school. The theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to obtain this category can also be acquired through individual learning (self-study). However, driving school "Einšteins", realizing the importance for young people to acquire both theoretical and practical skills with professional trainers and instructors for their own safety and the safety of other road users, has developed a special training program for the AM category. This training program prepares future moped or scooter drivers not only to meet the requirements of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), but also to participate safely in general road traffic.

Driving school "Einšteins" offers an opportunity to learn how to drive a scooter and moped safely under the guidance of experienced instructors throughout the entire Latvia. In addition, the theoretical online training of the AM category provides an opportunity to take a theoretical course from any place convenient. Join the online training according to the schedule set by the driving school, learn practical driving skills from our great instructors and the AM category driver's licence will be in your pocket in one to two months!

Requirements for AM category by CSDD

The acquisition of a Category AM driver's licence is organized in a similar way to the acquisition of a standard driver's licence. In the theoretical exam or test to be taken at Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), 20 questions must be answered within 20 minutes, 2 of which are video questions. The test is deemed as passed if the number of incorrect answers does not exceed 2. Secondly, a practical driving exam must be taken and passed – here, the aspiring student's driving skills are tested in performance of special pre-set figures, as well as in general traffic. The driving exam lasts for 25 minutes – and must be taken within the time period from April 1 to October 1. The driving exam must be taken in special equipment: using a helmet, protective gear, clothing and gloves meant for driving a moped or scooter.
